2006 Entry: Regional Animal Campus

Why FSC Was Important to This Project

While this is a large project, each dog bungalow is a small project in itself. It was the owner’s vision that this project would have no compromises in including the highest level of sustainable design & material selection. The bungalows are constructed of fully recyclable or recycled materials. While exposed in steel siding, they are constructed of FSC-certified wood frame construction.

The project is one of the first few LEED registered projects in Las Vegas region, going for LEED Platinum level certification. The team of general contractor, the consultants, and the owner had never worked on a LEED project before. Hence, their knowledge on green building and forest products industries was very limited. Through specifying majority of our wood from FSC-certified manufacturers, the awareness of FSC products was brought together among the group. Being a part of architect’s presentations, project marketing brochures and educational booths, the sustainable aspects of the project are explained to the users and general public. This project has set an example for FSC-certified products in the region and hence, helped to transform the marketplace.
