Why FSC Was Important to This Project
LEED green building certification was a goal for this project. As such, the use of FSC-certified wood products became a goal for the project, in order to earn the “certified wood credit ” in LEED.

Use of FSC-certified Wood
It was decided during the design phase of this project to use 100% FSC-certified wood. Rather than have multiple subcontractors trying to source products, it was decided to have the millwork supplier (Amtekco Industries, Columbus, OH) obtain FSC certification and supply all rough lumber to the jobsite. While Amtekco certainly learned the most about FSC certification, many of the other subcontractors who would normally furnish their own rough wood products learned about the FSC certification process as a result. Additionally, Amtekco intends to keep and renew as required their FSC chain-of-custody certification so that they may provide FSC certified products to other green building projects in the Ohio region. |
